Contact Bimetal

Contact bimetal is a clad material, which combines the advantageous properties of a relatively inexpensive carrier material with the special contact properties of a precious metal coating or a precious metal alloy coating.

G.RAU produces contact bimetal strip by means of pressure welding, brazing, seam welding and electroplating.

The choice of the manufacturing method depends on the material, its properties and the required dimensions.

Contact materials primarily require good switching characteristics. The carrier material needs to have good electrical and thermal conductivity. Sufficient strength and spring-properties as well as good technological properties such as solderability and weldability are advantageous.

Commonly copper and copper alloys, nickel and nickel alloys are used while for special applications thermobimetals are chosen.
